Sharksnip Glossary

Terms you'll encounter on the platform, in our content, and in the community.

TL;DR for the degens

  • Sharp call = one-click ML helper button (Optimize Weights, Diagnose, etc.). Costs 1 from your monthly quota.
  • Slate Pass = ~$5 one-shot for one model + one slate. Grinder = $10/mo. God Mode = $30/mo.
  • Snip = a notable pick. Sharp = top creator. Snipline = daily picks ticker.
  • Brier = calibration metric (lower = better). ROI = profitability metric. We track both.
  • Consensus tier ≠ subscription tier. Consensus tier = your model's track-record weight (Verified Sharp 5×, Established 2×, Standard 1×, Probationary 0.25×, Excluded 0×).

Sharksnip-specific terms

Shark — A Sharksnip creator, especially one with a strong track record. Often shorthand for a Featured Creator. Used in marketing copy ("the top sharks of Week 8") and community vernacular.

Snip — A notable pick or prediction outcome. Used as a noun ("that was a great snip") and as an event ("the best snips of the week"). The brand pun on Sharksnip.

Snipped (verb) — To have called a pick correctly. "I snipped the under on Monday Night."

Shark Snips of the Week — Sharksnip's weekly recap content (Monday). Auto-generated from platform data. Published as blog post, YouTube video, Twitter thread, podcast episode, TikTok highlights.

Snipline — The daily picks ticker showing top Consensus picks for the day's slate. Free tier sees top 1; Grinder/God Mode see full feed.

Snip Tank — Monthly featured-creator deep-dive content. The Sharksnip equivalent of an in-depth interview series, focused on a single Featured Creator's methodology.

Snipscore — A model's public performance metric, computed from Brier score and ROI. Visible on every model's listing page.

Sniprank — The platform leaderboard ranking creators by recent performance.

Snipbites — Short-form social content (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) auto-generated from week's highlights.

Snipverse — The Sharksnip Discord and community ecosystem.

Shark Tank Awards — Quarterly awards recognizing top creators by category (best NFL, best NBA, best newcomer, etc.).

Shark of the Year — Annual award; top overall creator across the platform.

Sniptape Archive — The historical archive of all past picks and predictions, browseable by sport, week, or creator.

Subscription / pricing terms

Sandbox / Free — The free tier. Full Tinker access, 1 Sharp call per week (Monday reset, no rollover), no live picks from your trained models. Forever free. Can also top up extra Sharp calls at $1/call.

Slate Pass — A one-off purchase (~$5) granting live picks from ONE specific model for ONE specific slate (e.g., this Sunday's NFL games). Multiple Slate Passes can be active in parallel. Doesn't include Sharp calls — the user keeps whatever underlying tier quota they have.

Grinder — The mid-tier paid plan. $10/month or $99/year. Live picks from all your trained models + 5 Sharp calls per month with rollover up to 10. Top-up at $1/call available as overflow.

God Mode — The advanced paid plan. $30/month or $299/year. Everything in Grinder + 50 Sharp calls per month with rollover up to 100 + advanced Consensus features + API access. Targeted at active builders. Top-up at $1/call available as overflow.

Sharp call — A button-press AI helper inside the model builder. The user clicks a labeled button (Optimize Weights, Run Monte Carlo, Improve Calibration, Suggest Features, Diagnose, Auto-tune); the system invokes Claude with a structured tool schema and shows a before/after preview. Each click consumes one call from the user's monthly quota.

Optimize Weights — A Sharp call button. Hyperparameter tuning + small architecture search. Returns proposed weight set + projected delta.

Run Monte Carlo — A Sharp call button. Simulates 10,000 outcomes against historical data; returns distribution + tail-risk summary.

Improve Calibration — A Sharp call button. Brier-score-aware probability adjustment (Platt / isotonic regression).

Suggest Features — A Sharp call button. LLM proposes new feature engineering ideas given the current model's feature set.

Diagnose — A Sharp call button. Explains why a model is underperforming (overfit / feature drift / class imbalance / leakage).

Auto-tune — A Sharp call button. Re-trains end-to-end with proposed better hyperparameters.

Sharp call quota — Your recurring allowance of Sharp calls. Free tier: 1/week (Monday reset, no rollover). Grinder: 5/month with rollover up to 10. God Mode: 50/month with rollover up to 100. Resets in your local timezone.

Sharp call rollover — Paid-tier benefit: unused monthly Sharp calls carry forward to the next month, capped at 2× your monthly allotment (Grinder cap = 10, God Mode cap = 100). Prevents indefinite hoarding while still rewarding intermittent users. Free tier's weekly call does NOT roll over.

Sharp call top-up — A pay-as-you-go single Sharp call at $1 per call, available to every tier (Free included). Charged via Stripe one-time payment on click of any Sharp call button. No subscription required. Top-up balance is held separately from monthly quota, doesn't expire, and isn't capped. Spend order: weekly → monthly → bonus → top-up (so top-ups never get burned while subscription quota is available).

Weekly Sharp call — The Free tier's Sharp call benefit. Exactly 1 call per week. Resets every Monday in user's local timezone. Does NOT roll over (use it or lose it). Designed as a conversion teaser — at 4–5+ calls/month, Grinder is a better deal.

Bonus balance — Extra Sharp calls earned from Pack Breaker tournament prizes or Shark Snips features. Rolls forward (capped at 100). Spent after monthly quota and before $1 top-ups.

Top-up balance — Sharp calls purchased at $1 each via Stripe one-time charge. Doesn't expire, no cap, separate from monthly subscription quota.

Marketplace terms

Marketplace — The Sharksnip storefront where creators publish trained models for subscribers to buy access to.

Model subscription — A recurring monthly purchase of access to a creator's marketplace model. Default 50/50 split (creator/Sharksnip).

Featured Creator — Editorial recognition awarded by the Sharksnip team. Featured Creators get prominent placement in marketplace browse, Shark Snips features, and bonus Sharp calls. Not a paid tier; not algorithmic.

Cash payout — Monthly creator earnings paid via Stripe Connect. $50 minimum, processed within 7 days of month-end.

Stripe Connect — Payment infrastructure for creator cash payouts. Express accounts; handles W-9 / W-8BEN.

Fork (model) — Click "fork" on a public model to get a starter mirroring its architecture and feature pipeline (NOT trained weights). Forker publishes their own version; original creator is credited on the fork's profile and appears in the public fork tree. No royalty chain — parent doesn't earn from fork sales.

Fork tree — Public visualization of a model's parent + descendants. Used for discovery (browseable by users looking for "ancestors of this hot new model").

Consensus contribution tiers

These are performance grades for Consensus weighting, NOT subscription tiers. Don't confuse with Free / Slate Pass / Grinder / God Mode.

Verified Sharp — A model with 90+ days live, top 10% calibration, 500+ predictions. Earns 5× weight in Consensus.

Established (Consensus) — A model with 30+ days live, top 30% calibration, 100+ predictions. Earns 2× weight.

Standard (Consensus) — A model with 14+ days live, 50+ predictions. Earns 1× weight.

Probationary — A new model still earning track record. Also the default for Pack Breaker submissions. Earns 0.25× weight.

Excluded — A model with sub-50% accuracy on calibrated predictions. 0× weight.

Product terms

Tinker — The in-browser ML model training environment. Where you build models. Free forever.

Tinker workshop — The full Tinker UI including blueprint editor, feature selection, training, backtesting, and saving.

Blueprint — A pre-built model template. Beginners often start here, then customize.

Backtest — Running a model against historical data to evaluate hypothetical performance. Walk-forward cross-validation is the gold standard.

Component — A modular building block: feature pipeline, training script, backtesting harness, ensemble strategy. Sold separately on marketplace.

Feature — An input variable to a model. E.g., "home team rest days," "weather," "line movement."

Feature pipeline — A sequence of transformations that computes features from raw data.

Ensemble — Combining multiple models' predictions into one. Often more accurate than any individual model.

Model architecture — The structural form of a model (linear, logistic, MLP, gradient boosted trees, etc.).

Hyperparameters — Configurable settings of a model (learning rate, depth, regularization, etc.).

TF.js — TensorFlow.js, the in-browser ML library Sharksnip uses for client-side training.

Picks / betting terms

Pick — A specific bet recommendation. ("The Chiefs to cover -3.5.") Sharksnip publishes picks based on its own models; user-generated picks come from marketplace models.

Live picks — Real-time predictions for upcoming games. Paywalled — requires Slate Pass, Grinder, or God Mode for trained models you (or creators you sub to) own.

Spread — Point spread bet. Bet on whether a team will cover a specified margin.

Total / O/U — Over/under bet. Bet on whether the combined score will be over or under a specified number.

Moneyline (ML) — Straight bet on which team wins, with payout odds varying by perceived team strength.

Prop / proposition bet — Bet on a specific outcome other than game result. Player props (rushing yards, shots on goal) are most common.

+EV / Positive Expected Value — A bet whose expected return is positive given the model's probability estimate vs the market's offered odds.

ATS / Against the Spread — Performance metric measuring how often a model's pick covered the point spread.

Cover / no cover — Did a team's actual margin exceed the spread.

Push — When a bet ties (e.g., a -3 spread when the team wins by exactly 3). Stakes refunded.

CLV / Closing Line Value — How much your bet's price moved between the time you placed it and the closing line. Positive CLV correlates with long-term profitability.

Brier score — A statistical measure of probabilistic prediction calibration. Lower is better. Used to compute Snipscore and Consensus weighting.

ROI — Return on Investment. The implied wagering returns of your model assuming flat-stake bets. Computed from your live track record.

Kelly stake / Kelly criterion — A formula for sizing bets based on edge and bankroll. Sharksnip exposes Kelly recommendations on the picks page.

DFS — Daily Fantasy Sports. Building lineups within a salary cap to compete in contests.

GPP / Tournament — Guaranteed Prize Pool. DFS contest format with a fixed payout structure, winner-take-most.

Cash game — Even-payout DFS contests (50/50, double-up). Top 50% double their entry.

Optimizer — A tool that builds DFS lineups maximizing projected points within constraints (salary cap, exposure rules, stacking).

Pickem / Parlay — DFS-as-betting product (PrizePicks, Underdog Pick 6, DK Pick 6) where you select multiple props and need them all to hit.

Parimutuel — Pickem format where users compete against each other (P2P), pool-based payouts. Replacing against-the-house pickem post-regulatory pressure.

Consensus / aggregate terms

Consensus — Sharksnip's weighted aggregate of all marketplace models' predictions for a game (and opted-in Pack Breaker submissions).

Weighted consensus — The Consensus is not a simple average. Models with stronger track records get more weight (5× for Verified Sharps).

Dispersion — How much marketplace models disagree on a prediction. High dispersion = less confidence; low dispersion = strong agreement.

Divergence (from market) — When the Consensus disagrees with the Vegas line. Often signals an edge opportunity. God Mode tier shows divergence alerts.

Correlated cluster — Multiple forks of a model that vote nearly identically. Treated as a single combined-weight vote in Consensus to prevent fork-spam.

Pack Breaker terms

Pack Breaker — Sharksnip's free, skill-based prediction tournament system. No buy-in, no NFTs, no securities-law surface. Prizes are platform credit (Sharp calls + free Slate Passes).

Tournament — A single instance of Pack Breaker play, typically tied to a slate (e.g., "NFL Week 9 ATS").

Submission — A user's set of predictions for a tournament's games.

Lock time — When a tournament closes for new/edited submissions. Predictions are scored against actual outcomes after games resolve.

Prize structure — The defined awards per rank (e.g., top 1 → 1 month God Mode, top 10 → 5 bonus Sharp calls + free Slate Pass, top 100 → 1 free Slate Pass).

Affiliate / business terms

Affiliate revshare — Revenue we earn when users sign up for sportsbooks/DFS apps/Kalshi through our links. A non-trivial portion of our total revenue, especially important for funding the free tier.

CPA / Cost Per Acquisition — Flat fee paid by sportsbooks/DFS sites per first-time depositor we send. Typically $40-300.

Lifetime revshare — Alternative affiliate model where we earn a % of net player losses for the lifetime of an account.

The Odds API — Third-party licensed sportsbook odds feed. Sharksnip uses this rather than scraping.

Kalshi — CFTC-regulated prediction market. Federally pre-empted from state-by-state pickem regulations. Sharksnip integrates Kalshi as a regulatory hedge.

Free Grinder pass (sportsbook signup) — 7-day Grinder access funded by an affiliate referral fee when a user signs up for a sportsbook through Sharksnip's links and makes a deposit.

Community / Discord terms

Showcase channel — Discord channel where creators announce new model releases.

VIP Discord — Private Discord channel for God Mode subscribers.

Snip squad — Informal: a group of users who collaboratively analyze a slate together.

Build-along — Live event where the founder or a Featured Creator walks through building a model in real time, narrated.

Compliance / regulatory terms

Section 230 — Communications Decency Act safe harbor for platforms hosting user-generated content. Underpins Sharksnip's marketplace legal posture.

DMCA — Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Establishes the takedown / counter-notice process for copyright disputes.

Designated agent — The contact registered with the US Copyright Office to receive DMCA takedown notices. See DMCA Policy.

Repeat infringer policy — Required by DMCA. Sharksnip terminates accounts of users with repeat valid takedowns.
