Late Swap

Editing slots before each lock.

Definition

Late Swap is the ability to edit open roster slots before each player’s game starts. Once a player’s game locks, that player cannot be changed, but players in later games can still be moved or replaced if the contest rules allow it. There is no betting math formula for Late Swap; its value comes from using new information before the remaining games lock.

Worked Example

A DFS lineup has six players. Three players lock at 1:00 p.m. ET, two lock at 4:25 p.m. ET, and one locks at 8:20 p.m. ET. At 3:50 p.m., news breaks that a $7,200 wide receiver in the 4:25 game is inactive. With Late Swap, the bettor can replace him with a $6,900 receiver from a later game and use the extra $300 salary elsewhere if another open slot remains. Without Late Swap, the inactive player stays in the lineup and scores zero.

Why It Matters

Late Swap helps a bettor react to injury news, lineup changes, weather, and contest position after early games finish. It is most useful in DFS formats where later-starting players can be adjusted without touching already-locked slots.
