Definition
DFS pick'em is a daily fantasy contest built around player props. Instead of drafting a full lineup under a salary cap, you choose whether players will finish more or less than posted stat lines, such as points, rebounds, passing yards, or strikeouts.
The core math is payout-based, not odds-based: profit = entry fee × payout multiplier - entry fee. If a $20 entry pays 5x, the total payout is $20 × 5 = $100, and the profit is $100 - $20 = $80.
Worked Example
A DFS pick'em card lists Jalen Brunson at 27.5 points and Anthony Edwards at 5.5 rebounds. You select Brunson more than 27.5 points and Edwards less than 5.5 rebounds.
If the app posts a 2-pick payout at 3x and you enter $25, the payout is $25 × 3 = $75. Your profit is $75 - $25 = $50 if both picks are correct.
Why It Matters
DFS pick'em helps a bettor compare prop opinions across formats: sportsbook odds, no-vig projections, and posted DFS payouts. The edge comes from finding stat lines where your projection is meaningfully different from the posted number and the payout is worth the risk.
