Pleaser

Reverse teaser, lines against you, boosted payout.

Definition

A pleaser is a reverse teaser: you move each selected spread or total against your bet, and the sportsbook offers a larger payout in return. If a teaser makes a team +3 become +9, a pleaser makes that same team +3 become -3. Each leg must still win after the worse line is applied.

For positive American odds, break-even probability is:

100 / (odds + 100)

Worked Example

A bettor starts with two standard -110 lines:

  • Cowboys -3.5
  • Over 44.5

In a 6-point pleaser, the lines move against the bettor:

  • Cowboys -9.5
  • Over 50.5

At a posted +600 price, a $100 bet wins $600 if both adjusted legs win. The break-even probability is:

100 / (600 + 100) = 14.29%

The two-leg pleaser must cash more than 14.29% of the time to have positive expected value at +600.

Why It Matters

Pleasers help a bettor test whether a payout is large enough to justify taking worse numbers. The concept is useful when comparing true win probability against the posted price, especially on correlated game scripts or lines with strong projection gaps.
