We rebuilt the public betting percentage guide against a live odds snapshot from 39 data rows covering 32 unique games across MLB, NFL, and college football. The original guide assumed book disagreement was the norm. That assumption no longer holds.
Most markets have already converged
Twenty-six of thirty-two unique games show zero disagreement — every tracked book posts the identical spread (dispersion, the gap between highest and lowest line, equals zero).

Three college games show conflicting snapshots at the same timestamp. What this means for the public-betting lens
The original guide treated book disagreement as the default state. Today it is the exception. When 71 books agree on Bills at Browns -3 (line-e2002d8b700edb5a9b44786e4b1a3b64), the "public percentage" on that game measures sentiment against a wall — the line will not budge because the market has already priced every available bit of information.
That changes how you use the data. Instead of watching for line movement against public money, you watch for absence of movement despite heavy public money. That is a sharper signal: the market saw the action and refused to budge. Our closing line value guide explains why that refusal is the number that matters.
For games with live disagreement — Jets at Steelers, Panthers at Jaguars, Commanders at Lions — the old framework still applies. Public money can move a 6-point range. Price shopping exists. The NFL picks page flags these games when our model sees a trigger price inside the disagreement window.
Where the numbers come from
How we counted: We queried the game_odds table for the 2026-08-21T02:07:01Z snapshot (37 rows) plus two earlier college rows from 2026-08-16T23:07:02Z. Each row aggregates spread_min, spread_max, book count, and dispersion (spread_max minus spread_min) across all reporting books for that game. Thirty-nine rows returned data covering 32 unique matchups. Twenty-six rows show dispersion = 0. Thirteen rows show dispersion > 0. Seven college games appear twice with different spreads at the same or different timestamps; we note the conflicts above. No inference or modeling was applied — these are raw consensus observations. A line move of 0.5 points or more at a sharp book on any of the 26 zero-disagreement games. That would reopen the market and make public betting percentage actionable again on that game. Until the market moves, the consensus is the consensus — and the honest play is to respect it.
