One game, three quotes on the same side

Ravens at Colts, Week 1, Sunday, Sep 13, 1:00 PM ET. Pinnacle has the Ravens at -177 and the Colts at +155. DraftKings has the Ravens at -175 and the Colts at +145. Bovada has the Ravens at -180 and the Colts at +155.

Two teams, one market, and three separately quoted pairs of prices on the screen.

Converting the Ravens side by hand

Negative prices convert one way. Divide the size by itself plus 100. Pinnacle's -177 gives 177 / (177 + 100) = 63.90%, with a decimal price of 1 + 100/177 = 1.565. DraftKings' -175 gives 175 / (175 + 100) = 63.64%, decimal 1 + 100/175 = 1.571.

Bovada's -180 gives 180 / (180 + 100) = 64.29%, decimal 1 + 100/180 = 1.556.

DraftKings' -175 carries the lowest implied chance of the three and the highest decimal, 1.571. A Ravens bet placed there returns more per dollar staked than the same bet at Pinnacle or Bovada, on the identical outcome. Put $175 down at DraftKings' 1.571 and a Ravens win returns $275. The same $175 at Bovada's 1.556 returns $272.

Same result, same money at risk, $3 less in your hand.

Converting the Colts side by hand

Positive prices flip the fraction. Put 100 over the price plus 100. Pinnacle's +155 gives 100 / (155 + 100) = 39.22%, decimal 1 + 155/100 = 2.550. DraftKings' +145 gives 100 / (145 + 100) = 40.82%, decimal 1 + 145/100 = 2.450.

Bovada's +155 gives the same 39.22% as Pinnacle, decimal 2.550.

Here DraftKings goes the other way. Its +145 pays the least of the three for the same Colts bet, and its Ravens price paid the most. Cheap at one book on one side tells you nothing about that book on the other side. Sit at one book because it is convenient and you hand back the better price on whichever side it happens to price worse.

Pinnacle and Bovada quote the identical +155 on the Colts, which converts to the identical 39.22% and 2.550 decimal at both. Those two agree on that side. On the other side Pinnacle's Ravens number, -177, sits between DraftKings' -175 and Bovada's -180 and matches neither one. Agreement on one side of a game carries no information about the other, even between the same two books.

What shopping the same side proves and does not prove

Converting all three by hand shows a real arithmetic gap in what the identical outcome pays. 1.571 at DraftKings against 1.556 at Bovada, on the same Ravens moneyline, is 1.5 cents per dollar staked, off the same board at nearly the same moment. None of that proves anyone mispriced the game. Each book sets its own number and its own cut, and this lines up prices that already exist.

No spread here. No total. No other game on the slate. Three prices a side, and nothing else went into this comparison at all.

The distance between books on this game is smaller than the distance between the Ravens side and the Colts side inside any single one of them. DraftKings' own Ravens chance, 63.64%, and its own Colts chance, 40.82%, add up to 104.46%. That is its raw two-side total on the game. Comparing across three books converts one market three times.

Comparing the Ravens price to the Colts price inside one book compares two markets that happen to share a kickoff.

The odds converter runs a single entered price through the same arithmetic used here. The live odds board carries all three books' current numbers. The picks board lists what the house has published on this slate. A companion piece on closing line value covers what tracking this same gap over time is for.

This is a snapshot of the board as it stood today, and prices move.

What the Number Says

Shop the Ravens at DraftKings and the Colts at Pinnacle or Bovada. Two different books for one two-team game, and right now it is worth 1.5 cents on the dollar. What ends it is any one of the three moving off this cluster, because the cheap side moves with it. Watch the three of them on Sunday morning, well before kickoff.

Frequently asked questions

Do all three books quote the same price for the same game?
No. For the Ravens at Indianapolis, Pinnacle has -177, DraftKings -175, and Bovada -180, three different prices for the same side of the same game at nearly the same moment.
Which book pays the most for the Ravens moneyline?
DraftKings, at -175, which converts to a decimal price of 1.571, the highest of the three books converted here.
Is the book with the best Ravens price also the best for the Colts?
No. DraftKings' Colts price of +145 converts to the lowest decimal of the three books, 2.450, even though its Ravens price was the best.
Does converting all three books tell you which price is "correct"?
No. It converts and compares three real, already-quoted prices; it does not determine whether any one book mispriced the game.
Where can these three books' current prices be checked directly?
The live NFL odds board carries all three books' numbers, and the odds converter on the desk converts any one of them into a decimal or implied-probability figure.
