The FLEX board, six names
Implied team total comes off the odds market. Take the game's points, adjust by that team's own spread, and you have the market's price on one offense rather than two. Everything left of it comes off the Week 1 projection board, PPR scoring: points for the week, where that lands a man at his own position, what drafters pay, and where his team lists him.
| Player | Pos | Team | Projected points, Week 1 (PPR) | Board rank at the position | ADP | Implied team total | Depth chart | Injury tag |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Puka Nacua | WR | LAR | 21.05 | 1 | 2.8 | 25.83 | 1 | Questionable |
| Amon-Ra St. Brown | WR | DET | 18.83 | 4 | 6.9 | 28.50 | 1 | none |
| Christian McCaffrey | RB | SF | 18.38 | 3 | 5.8 | 22.33 | 1 | Questionable |
| George Pickens | WR | DAL | 14.68 | 13 | 19.7 | 25.50 | 2 | none |
| Zay Flowers | WR | BAL | 14.24 | 15 | 24.4 | 25.58 | 1 | Questionable |
| Travis Kelce | TE | KC | 9.81 | 10 | 107.3 | 23.17 | 1 | none |
Start: McCaffrey on the figure and on the role
Christian McCaffrey projects 18.38 points, third among running backs, and San Francisco lists him first on its depth chart. His implied team total is 22.33, the lowest of the six, out of a 48.17-point game with Los Angeles favored by 3.5. Nobody's pricing the 49ers for a shutout. Two names on this page beat him outright and I name them below, but against the two the room actually agonizes over, this is not close.
Sit the name hype: two big names the board puts underneath him
George Pickens projects 14.68 points, 13th among receivers. Dallas's implied total of 25.50 is a fine offense to be attached to. The problem is one column further right. Dallas lists him second on the chart, and second means somebody else eats first.
In August I ran this section on a projection near McCaffrey's with an enormous band around it. The figure changed, and the depth chart is a cleaner reason than the one I had.
Travis Kelce projects 9.81 points, the lowest here by a wide margin and barely half McCaffrey's. He is first on the Kansas City chart with no tag, and Kansas City's implied total of 23.17 is competitive with several names above him, so neither the role nor the offense is the alibi. Drafters have already worked this out. They let him go at 107.3, the latest draft price on this page by a distance.
Zay Flowers lands between them at 14.24 points behind the third-highest implied total on the board, with a questionable tag of his own beside the name.
Where the board rates ahead of McCaffrey
Two names outrank him and saying so is the honest half of this. Puka Nacua projects 21.05 points, the highest figure on the page and the board's top receiver, in the same game as McCaffrey. Then Amon-Ra St. Brown, 18.83 points, hung off the biggest implied total here, 28.50, with Detroit favored by 7.0 at home.
If you're choosing one FLEX and both receivers are available, the board takes them ahead of McCaffrey. The McCaffrey case is against Pickens and Kelce, not against the whole board.
The column that beats all of them
3 of these six carry a questionable tag: McCaffrey, Nacua and Flowers. That is half the page, including the man in the title and the best figure on it. A tag does not shrink a projection. It leaves open whether the projection applies at all, and no amount of staring at the points column resolves that.
In August I built this whole page out of tier grades and error bands. The tag column was sitting right there the entire time, doing more work than either of them.
The Receipts Drawer
McCaffrey 18.38, Pickens 14.68, Kelce 9.81. Start McCaffrey over both of the famous names and take the argument at your league's group chat. Then go look at the inactives, because his questionable tag is the one thing on this page that can turn a start into an empty slot, and you'll know ninety minutes before kickoff.
If he's out, Nacua carries the same tag and Amon-Ra St. Brown does not, so St. Brown is the fallback I'd have written down before Sunday morning rather than during it.
